You might have received a postcard recently about a new way to connect with your neighbors on a free site called Nextdoor and it has generated a bit of a buzz throughout the neighborhood. On Nextdoor, THCA has a neighborhood on the site with boundaries that match the civic association neighborhood boundaries, and we have 3 leads maintaining the posts in the neighborhood.  It can be a little confusing at first to newcomers because you also have additional visibility in local neighborhoods too (Mt. Washington, Linwood, other smaller neighborhoods in Anderson, etc.), but you can turn off these views too through adjusting your settings.

The association sees the Nextdoor site as another way to keep in touch on what’s happening in the neighborhood and immediately around us to complement our other manners of communication.   The following is a blurb from the about page that nicely compliments the spirit of the Turpin Hills Civic Association:

Thousands of neighborhoods are already using Nextdoor to build happier, safer places to call home.

People are using Nextdoor to:

  • Quickly get the word out about a break-in
  • Organize a Neighborhood Watch Group
  • Track down a trustworthy babysitter
  • Find out who does the best paint job in town
  • Ask for help keeping an eye out for a lost dog
  • Find a new home for an outgrown bike
  • Finally call that nice man down the street by his first name

Nextdoor’s mission is to provide a trusted platform where neighbors work together to build stronger, safer, happier communities, all over the world.
